two years old!

Miss Lilly is now two years old. I can't believe it! She had a blast at her party last saturday.. but not so much fun yesterday afternoon. Hubby came home from work to go with us to the well baby checkup for both girls. She was such a champ tho - she didn't even whimper when she got her shot! So with clothes and shoes on, Lilly is up to 34 lbs and 35inches.. my baby is almost 3 feet tall. I knew she'd had a growth spurt since i measured her at one of my prenatal appointments! :) I have the %'s in the diaperbag if anyone is interested...

Miss Cailin will be 5 weeks old tomorrow.. holy crap that went fast! As per the new nurse and the old school wooden scale, Cai is up to 10lbs and still 21inches. It's nice to have proof that she is eating well since she nurses all the time and I had such a hard time nursing Lilly.

She's Here! (pics and labor story with detail)

Miss Cailin Jessa was born Saturday August 21st at 12:20pm! Our little peanut weighed in at 6lbs 11oz and 20.5in long.. She's doing great! Lilly is a proud big sister who wants to snuggle and kiss her all the time. :) The hubby took the week off from work to help with the adjustment, so we'll have to see how next week goes with just me and the girls... should be interesting to say the least!

L&D was nothing crazy.. at 38wk 4days i woke up with regular contractions around 2am Sat and eventually starting timing them when i realized how regular they were (less than 10min apart.) Since they weren't too close and not real painful, i let Hubby sleep until he started moving around at 5:30 and told him i'd been contracting for a couple hours. So we got up, had coffee, took showers, took the dogs out.. and called our moms! My mom was lined up to join us at the hospital and my MIL was taking Lilly (and my wonderful Aunt took care of our dogs!) so we gave them some notice after my OB said yes, go to the hospital. We took our sweet time because i wasn't in crazy pain and i'd been timing my contractions with this spiffy online timer thing which let me know they were 4-5min apart. The hospital isn't very far from our house and it was a saturday morning - no traffic! We got there and checked in around 9:15 or so, got a room, changed, and the midwife checked me - and was surprized that i was already 5cm dilated and 60% effaced. I'd walked in from the parking garage and was feeling pretty good. She said "I guess you're staying to have a baby!" :) Once I'd been hooked up to the monitors for 20min or so and been checked, they let me walk around with my IV poll and my posse (mom and DH) for 45min and my OB showed up. He was really surprised by how relaxed i was when he checked and realized i was 6cm and 90%! He didn't end up going to the other hospital to check on his postpartum moms that morning.. He broke my water at 11am which was utter hell on earth it hurt so bad! In hindsight I should have fought against it because of how well i was able to deal with the contractions and still be progressing that quickly.. Anyhow, after he broke my water the pain skyrocketed, i was contracting way more frequently.. and nothing i was trying was making it easier to cope. So I requested an epidural which happened around 11:30. The guy that did it kicked mom and DH out for "half an hr" but it only took him 20min.. which also hurt like hell. It's hard to sit really still through a really painful contraction while curled up around your belly, while someone stabs you in the back! A little bit after that was done my OB came back and checked me again.. and i was 9.5cm and 100% - told me i was going to have to push once and have a baby in a minute. Had to call DH's cell to get them back in the room! I ended up pushing twice.. tho they were two *really* long pushes.. and then i heard her cry almost instantly at 12:20! Apparently the cord was really short, so my mom had to cut it before they could put Cailin on my chest. After they got her suctioned out enough, she ended up nursing really well for about 45min and we got to spend quite a bit of time with her before they took her to the nursery to be thoroughly checked out and i was wheeled to my PP room. My IL's brought Lilly in that evening to see us and meet her baby sister before going out for dinner.. She was so happy!

All in all, i was thrilled with how this birth went. especially when compaired to being induced at 41wks with Lilly at the other big, teaching hospital down the road. We were so much more relaxed and comfortable at St Peter's from the start. I probably could have done without the epi if my OB didn't break my water, but we'll never know. I don't regret getting it tho!
Now for pics of the peanut!

yep..

I'm still a blog slacker.

Between record heat and humidity, a toddler who won't sit still for more than a second (or let ME sit down either!) and is currently working on her 2nd molars, a huge construction project upstairs that's finally getting close to done, and being now 9months pregnant, i've had a hard time updating the blog. Sorry, folks! Anyone want to plan Lilly's 2nd bday party for me? Do some electrical work? Paint baseboards, move furnature, sort baby clothes, assemble a crib...?

Never again will I be THIS pregnant in the summer!

blog slacker

I know i've been slacking wiht the blog to say the least. I've been busy and tired as hell lately. I don't remember being quite this tired during my 2nd trimester with Lilly, but then again i didn't have a toddler to chase after!

Lilly and I are in a parent/tot swim class at the local high school on Wednesdays for the next month... it's been really nice being able to play with her AND floating in the water, and she's getting more and more comfortable with the water. she loved the pool last year, but she was always in a baby float... since i'm expecting to spend quite a bit of time in the pool this summer being prego it'll be a great thing for Lilly to know how to float on her back.

Kelly, this one's for you: my grocery store does email and facebook coupons every week. I went in with a coupon for window cleaner for $.50... but it's on sale this week for $.20 off, so i ended up getting it for a whopping $.30. :) I think I need to print out another coupon and head back to the store!

u/s pic to come..

We found out tuesday that we're having ANOTHER GIRL! :) Sometime soon I'll scan and post the ultrasound pic, but it's another Skeletor shot.

in the same breath, my FIL said congrats and we're gonna have to have a 3rd so he can have a grandson. Good thing Lilly's a bit of a tomboy, huh? Gotta love family..

ahhhhh...

We finally got some more nice weather this week! sunny and 60 yesterday with more of the same for most of the week... it's like heaven. Lilly and I got to play outside for about an hr before her hands got too cold, and Daddy came home in the middle of it to play with us! So nice to have sunshine after 5pm, and it was even better be 60 degrees still.

Today we have a playdate with a handful of moms/kids from the BFing group i went to.. and tomorrow we're going to this big ass consignment sale with another mommy friend of mine! the sale really starts today at 9am (45min from now) but there's no way i can get the dogs out & fed, me showered and dressed, Lilly cleaned, fed & dressed, and wade thru the sale on the busiest day and STILL make it to our playgroup on time. I am tempted to try tho.. just to go in and see if they have a sit n stand stroller. we'll have to see how the timing works out!

Thanks for the calls and emails this week.. monday night/tuesday am i was a blubbering idiot, but it's nice to know there's love out there! *hugs*

phew!

we've had a busy busy week! a play date and groceries on Monday, snow day and furnace maintenance on Tuesday, play date Thursday, ultrasound, shopping with Grandma, and errands on Friday. now if my sleepy tired daughter would just give in and nap, we'd be all set :)

Mom got to see my u/s this am because Lilly was calm enough to let her... a first for both of them! Mom had only seen the still pictures before, so she was happy to be able to see the new baby dancing around and hear the heartbeat. measuring right on target for August 31st, and according to the tech and dr, today's downs syndrome screening is nothing to be worried about. I'll get the official result next week. It wouldn't change anything, just give us warning, but I'm glad to get this result :)

I contacted the crib company.. apparently all i have to do to convert it to a daybed is take off the front rail. the bed spring platform thing holds the front together. so woohoo, the $20 bed rail i found will fit and keep Lilly in and save us from spending $90 on the crib's official toddler rail.

rumor has it that one of the other young women in my family is also pregnant! yay! between the two of us and another of my playgroup moms, this will be another exciting summer/fall. I do need to register for a mom n toddler swim class for this spring tho - it'll be great for Lilly to get into a pool early this year and i know we will be swimming alot this summer.

alright.. got to get *something* done now that the soon to be big sister is quiet...

help!

With baby #2 in the works for August, I've been thinking about what we'll need to get for furniture. Especially since babies r us is doing a trade-in get 25% off promotion and my sister and i went nuts finding cheap pack n plays at garage sales! Going to get a second wooden Graco highchair which goes nicely with our table, fits under it (w/o the big tray on it), and converts into a big kid chair.

After our first crib was recalled, we got this one : Sorelle Tuscany Elite Lifetime Crib. Might end up getting another one for #2. Fine, right? well I've been very happy with it so far. Need to think about converting Lilly's into a toddler bed in the near future tho. So I asked at BRU yesterday and was told that if it converts into a daybed, i can get a generic wooden bedrail that they sell off the shelf and save some $$ insted of special ordering the sorelle toddler rail. The info on the display model of our crib says it converts to a daybed, but the instructions were AWOL. My instructions don't have *anything* about it. not even how to convert to a twin bed. So now i'm on the hunt. This is what naptime will be about today.
.
Oh, and Sorelle's website doesn't even have this version of the crib - they only have this crib with the attached changer. And their directions? HA! even THAT doesn't say anything about converting it to a daybed even tho it's in the description of the crib. it's freaking rediculous. they still MAKE this crib, so what the hell?! They will be hearing from me today.

uuuuuugh..

So last post i said Lilly woke up full of snot, right? well the inevitable happened. I caught it. fine and expected, but I'm now 10wks pregnant so i can't take a damn thing to help. And the icing on the cake is that the hubby came home from work last night MISERABLE. He's got it too. I love him, but he's such a whiner when he's sick! Not to mention how badly he snores... over the weekend i'd end up on the couch by morning because of how i felt + the obnoxious snoring. Last night i kicked the poor guy out of bed at 10pm. i know i slept better w/o hearing the chainsaw.. he was doped up on nyquil anyway so i don't feel tooooo bad, but this is rediculous! I need to get out of the house and interact with adults, but I can't risk my dad getting this cold - he can now blow his nose normally without feeling like he's going to split his chest again. he doesn't need to do it this much AND cough.

poor, lonely me... waah waah waah...

Mrs Slacker

I know, i know.. it's been over a month. I've been busy with dr appointments and trips to my parents' and dealing with feeling like absolute CRAP! For those that hadn't heard yet, I'm pregnant! Made both of my parents tear up the day before Christmas Eve at the hospital with that news. :) So I feel so much better than I had before, but now it's switched from bad nausea to round ligament pain - super fun when you're carrying a 25lb+ Lilly around!

Speaking of Lilly, she woke up yesterday full of snot. Poor baby can't breathe well, has a real phlegmy cough, and a slight fever... Still deciding if it warrents a call to her doctor since she's still snoring and coughing in her sleep this morning. I'll probably run it past my mom first :)
